Ivujivik,
or the place where ice accumulates because of strong currents, is Quebec’s
northernmost village. A trading
post was first established on the site in 1909
by the Hudson's Bay Company. In 1938, a Catholic mission was founded and Inuit
gradually began to settle close to these two establishments in 1947.
